Trying to adult – eating how you like

“You’ll spoil your appetite.” Parents are mean when it comes to sweets and treats. They ration them as if they are the most expensive thing in the store. Now you’re buying your own food, you notice that these things cost less than fruit. They cost less than a pasta meal. There was no reason for you to be so deprived during your childhood, and you are going to put it right.

You eat chocolate whenever you like. You eat dessert before your main meal. You can eat what you like, whenever you like and nobody can tell you otherwise.

This lasts for exactly 2 days. All the sweet crap isn’t as much fun when you eat it for every meal. It makes you feel ill, and doesn’t taste nearly as good as it used to. Main meals lose their appeal when you’ve had dessert first. This means you don’t eat enough at meal time, so you’re hungry later, and the hunger just isn’t satisfied by another chocolate cookie.

You go back to the normal system. You have dessert after your meal. You eat a real lunch. Sweets and treats are eaten far enough away from meals so not to spoil your appetite. You wonder why you were ever stupid enough to change something that has worked so well for so long.

Lesson – some things are the way they are for a reason
