Am I old? – the news

I remember when I was a child. Probably from the age of 5 until 15. We had 1 TV in the house (that probably ages me by itself), and my dad was the master of it. We got to what after school TV at times, and various Saturday morning shows, but largely, I remember my Dad watching the news. This was in the days when we had 4 channels (ageing me again), and everything was schedules. I just remember the news being on all the time, and how boring it was.

Fast forward to today, and I enjoy keeping up with the news. Of course, it can get tiring when it’s a constant stream of negative and complaining, but I find myself able to absorb it for quite a while. On the journey to work and home again. Randomly in the morning. On the Internet. I almost hate myself for watching it; something I hated when I was young, yet here I am, doing that exact same thing.

I don’t know when it happened. I don’t know why it happened. I just know that as you get older, the news becomes more interesting, and I don’t like it.

Lesson – news does’t matter to the young
